“New Moon at 24 Taurus on May 13th 2010 Honors Integrity and Dignity!”

Again with anticipation we are approaching a New Moon at 24 degrees Taurus at 6:06 p.m. PDT on May 13th 2010, and as always I feel this is a new start.  Like the Fool card in the tarot deck with all his worldly goods on his back and with innocence he begins his journey to seek and fulfill his purpose.  With a new moon, the two lights are in harmony with each other and give support to one another.  In Taurus, the sense of possessions and what we possess, defines who we are.  With the difficult aspects still lingering, and the need to change, hangs over us.  The change needs to be within our attitudes, prejudices and our point of view if we are to experience the difficulties in store for us with the least of stress and frustration.  Saturn the lord of this decan of the New Moon is demanding this restructure in our thinking if we are to have the ability to learn and grow from our experiences.  It is not just our physical possessions that define us but our emotional and philosophical characteristics and personality that defines us, like our ability to have sympathy, empathy, honor, integrity and dignity.

“The Sabian symbol for the 24th degree of Taurus is taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”, and what follows are my comments.

Taurus 24  A mounted Indian with scalp locks  This is a symbol of pride in personal prowess, and it suggests an exceptional capacity for gaining and administrating authority among men.  There is here an appreciation in the potentials in nature herself, and of the senses as they can be brought to the full service of an individual’s aspiration and ambition. The conquest of an enemy becomes not so much a momentary supremacy over him as an acquisition and subsequent use of his particular genius.  The keyword is command.  When positive, the degree is an unimpeachable control over life through a discipline of the self and its powers, and when negative, a ruthlessness or complete inhumanity in dealing with others.

I am always delighted to intertwine the sabian symbols in my interpretation as they not only confirm what is being said, but gives one new insights with an interesting twist to the interpretation.  Here it seems to say that we must reevaluate our moral and philosophical thinking as far as kindness, sympathy and empathy are concern.  Do our values take in others, or are we just concerned what is happening to us?  Has the internet age isolated us to a narrow approach to humanity?  Are the high tech gadgets the scalps we use to show our personal prowess to others in our group?  The New Moon in Taurus is telling me that how we see and allow sympathy, empathy, kindness and a mind open to new ideas is a way we receive respect from our peers and enemies.  By upholding to the highest standard, our honor, integrity, and dignity are held in tack.  By being open minded we will be able to avoid the stresses and frustrations indicated by the aspects in the heavens.

“Is Mars Retrograde, Quick Tempered and Action Uncompleted?”

As we are quickly approaching to the end of another year, and the beginning of a new one, I began wondering what this Mars Retrograde in Leo again happening around the Winter Solstice, which normally extends to about six weeks to an unusual length of almost eight months in Leo, means in our daily lives for the coming year.  My astrology group has been discussing Saturn Retrograde and it’s meaning in the natal chart and how it may show the absence of the father figure or beneficial guidance or mentoring.  I began wondering what Mars Retrograde would indicate in a natal chart and as a transit to us individually, and as a collective whole.  The Mars Retrograde will square my Sun, so I have decided to think more deeply on the matter, and what I can do to make it benefit me more, then it normally might have done.  Thinking that Mars would react like Mercury Retrograde, but not as noticeable to the general public, I am determined to be careful and cautious of the actions of this red planet.

Mars in principle means strength of will, desire to conquer and conquest, perseverance and stamina, aggression and passion, and the ability to actualize and accomplish one’s objectives.  Being retrograde these actions tend to come into reality more carelessly and without forethought.  With retrograde we don’t need an excuse to cause problems, as we jump into action before understanding the situation.  We tend to appear to be quick tempered and far too quick to act in any situation and our anger is unreasonable.  Our actions may be full speed ahead, but nothing is apparently accomplished.  Our nature may be normally docile and gentle, but a violent streak might appear unexpectedly.  With the planets still indicating a difficult period ahead of us, we need to be vigilant with our actions and with Mercury Retrograde, the need to look with care before deciding on what actions we need to take.

Mars Retrograde in a natal chart may point towards a need to understand aggression, action and passion and how to use it, as a benefit in one’s life.  What we saw in our childhood, how we understood it and how we incorporate it in our thinking, is how the retrograde affects us now.  Our ability to harness the Mars energy and to use it to our benefit, will determine how successful we become in this life.  Mars the god of war anticipated all situations before going into battle, and in reality was using the talents of Mercury to keep ahead of his enemies.  Retrograde planets in the natal may also indicate that the blessings will come later in the person’s life, or that the person uses that energy in a different way.

With Mercury and Mars doing their thing, our main mantra for the coming year should be like the Fool Card in the tarot “So look before you leap”.  How successful we will be in the coming years will depend on our foresight, our understanding of the nature of retrograde planets and our ability to use Mar’s and Mercury’s energy to fulfill our convictions, hopes and desires.

“Mercury in the Solar Return Second House ▬ Look Before You Leap!”

The three most asked questions an astrologer receives, deals with money, love, and career.  Money is asked more as an evaluation of accomplishments and self worth, unless the individual is going through financial difficulties.  Even during a financial downturn, having the ability to use your money wisely and keeping it, is a tell tail sign to others of your accomplishments.  The old saying “Money Talks” is evident with Mercury in the Second Solar Return house which is associated with financial planning and monetary decisions for the coming year.  Mercury is the messenger, the communicator and the observer and having the ability to grasp any situation and to adapt and hopefully to work towards a successful finish.  Mercury is a neutral planet who tends to take on the characteristics of planets it aspects, and we need to consider the aspects of the natal and the solar return Mercury to the other planets to arrive at a complete picture for the year as far as the money house is concerned.  Mercury in the second house of the Solar Return does not promise one will make or have money, but is interested in eliminating wasteful expenditures with money saving ideas.

Mercury in this position is in a situation that is more dangerous and malefic than Saturn, because we know where Saturn stands, but Mercury appears to be sitting on the fence deciding which side has the greener pasture.  Mercury can cloud the situation and bring underlying currents which might undermine your financial plans for the year.  Mercury does not plan ahead, it works one day at a time, and improvises as it goes along.  Unfortunately with Mercury in the second your feelings can be hurt, if your efforts are seemingly, not appreciated.  This can harbor resentments which can overturn everything you have been working towards.  You may be misreading the situation or others misreading your intentions, can make Mercury in this house a Joker in a deck of cards.  Mercury wants the world to know how well you are doing and wants the world to appreciate how far you have gotten.  Needing the applause is Mercury’s downfall and needing to be appreciated will hamper the ability to make correct decisions.  With Mercury in the second, it is like having Mercury Retrograde, one has to be careful and cautious and all will end well.  It is like the fool Card in the tarot deck where you think the person is about to fall off the cliff, but he is well aware of where he is going.  The person is embracing the adventure of life with an open mind open to new suggestions and ideas and is aware of everything around him.  His adage is “Look before you leap”.  As long as you know of the pitfalls Mercury will have as it journeys through the second house, you like the fool will avoid falling off the cliff and finally arrive at your goals.

“Total Solar Eclipse ▬ July 21st 2009 ▬ Fresh Start?”

Eclipse Symbol by Deirdre Tantonbae31_solareclipse

The Solar Eclipse happening on July 21st 2009 at 7:36 p.m. pacific daylight time at 29 degrees 26 of Cancer is the second new moon in cancer for the year and is a very potent phenomenon appearing like a giant dragon swallowing its’ prey, the Sun for a period of about six minutes.  Eclipses in ancient times have long been held as bringers of evil such as earthquakes, tsunamis, bad weather conditions, riots, revolutions and public discontent.  On a personal level it brings a need for change, and on the emotional level, a need to change old habits and to develop new surroundings, friends, and pleasures.  Being in the sign of Cancer concerns memories of the past, finishing a project, family, foundation, security, and safety.  As it is happening in the critical 29th degree, a sense of urgency and completion is on the horizon, and we no longer wish to look back, but to the future and what it brings.  We are standing on the edge of the cliff, like the fool in the tarot card looking skyward towards the new sign of Leo, in which the sun is the ruler.  We are becoming aware that we must secure the future if we are to the have the happiness and joy we seek.

“The Sabian symbol for 30 degrees of Cancer taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”.  A Daughter of the American Revolution   this is a symbol of the enduring background in human relations as essentially dependent on an established tradition, and of a willingness to maintain it through a sharp rejection of any modifying influence of unsympathetic times or events.  The emphasis here on an outer conservatism carries with it an implicit warning against any mere resistance to change, and also stresses the need for a life which is exemplary through its faithfulness to standards of proved worth.  The keyword is INHERITANCE.  When positive, the degree is an infectious pride in leadership through which a group is able to act as a unit, and when negative, the ultimate betrayal of selfhood by a false assumption of superiority.”

This statement implies to me that every soul, idea and thought must be cherished and cared for that all may partake in its’ freedom, joy, and independence.  This Eclipse does not only bring a fresh start, but a responsibility to develop, nurture, and to share the bounty, and to remember where we came from.

In seeing how this eclipse effects our natal chart, we must first take note, if it aspects in any way, (especially a conjunction or an opposition) to any of the angles, and if there is any major aspects to the natal planets.  Also take notice of which house it is in and if it is making any aspects to the rulers of the surrounding cusps.  Although the eclipse may happen in an empty house and make no aspect to the chart, how it affects us will show up by any aspects made by the two rulers of the house and the house meaning.

Keywords for the effect of the Solar Eclipse on the angles and houses are as follows:

First House – Personal identity, physical appearance

Second House – Values, self worth, knowledge, finances

Third House – Communications, siblings, short trips

Fourth House – Family, home, foundation, end of a project

Fifth House – Self expression, fun, play, romance, children

Sixth House – Work and service

Seventh House – Relationships, partnerships, marriage

Eighth House – Other’s resources, sexuality, death, inheritance

Ninth House – Inspiration, philosophy, religion, education, journeys

Tenth House – Careers, honors, position and reputation

Eleventh House – Wishes, dreams, ideals, friends

Twelfth House – Inner feelings, spiritual, hospitals, institutions

This Eclipse is our chance, of not only making changes that impact our own lives, but changes that will benefit mankind and the world united as one.
