In the last few years with the difficult aspects of the squares and the oppositions in connection with the slower moving planets, it has become a learning experience in the perseverance of being patient and observant.  What appears to be the challenges and the obstacles confronting us can simply be expressed as the push, the pull and the shove of our emotions, our feelings and our decisions.  My experience in living through these aspects is that the final outcome has been utterly surprising and pleasing to me, or me ending up not being entirely happy or comfortable with the circumstances.  I have learnt from experience, that it is through difficulties and hardship that we begin to see our potentials and our needs.

My first astrology teacher always felt that an opposition aspect meant that the individual’s inner higher self was having a lively conversation or argument, with the lower mundane self.  She compared this to the essence of Saturn in disciplining our inner thoughts.  Whether the confrontation came from sources outside of the individual did not matter, as the individual was already struggling with the situation at hand.  She felt the square was the essence of Mars giving us a whole new push into a direction we may not have entertained before in our thoughts.  It would cause more of a conflict because we are entering or being pushed blindly into unknown territory.  An opposition in her viewpoint was the duality and the polarity of an idea or situation.  It is the idea that if one felt cold, one would at the same time understand what it would be like to feel warmth.  Where as without any previous trial and error to learn from, the square would bring us towards a new unfamiliar direction, in which we would need to navigate very wisely.

In preparing for this article, the feelings and emotions I have always associated with these aspects, began to return to haunt my imagination and my misgivings.  My thinking concerning these aspects are similar to the ones I always had with Mercury Retrograde, where I would come up with the worst scenarios that would befall me, then what would finally be experienced.  Facing the unknown, for some reason gives our ego the excuse to allow the mind to go wild.  My conclusion with the squares and the opposition is not to see them a malefic associated with unpleasantries, doubts, anxieties, and fears placed in our paths.  But, to see them as challenges that come in cycles with a rhythm, that come and go like the waves in the water.  We need to learn to work with them in order to get the most out of the situation.

The moment I approached these aspects from this point of view, I began to see how Saturn and Mars in my chart would work in explaining how I would deal and face the circumstances created by these aspects’.  Saturn allows us to see and estimate our limitations, and Mars allows us to measure how much energy and effort we will put into the project and for how long.  Understanding our own ability to deal with these aspects when the transits collide and make themselves felt in our natal chart, will be a turning point and a transformative cycle of growth and accomplishment.  The moment we see the square and opposition like a strong wave or gust of wind moving us forward, we will begin to understand how to manipulate the situation to our advantage.

To go with the wave in a strong wind, goes with the flow, and because we are going with flow, does not mean we cannot make many stops along the way.  If one wants to go against the wave or wind, it would be wise to wait until the wind dies down or changes its direction, before forging ahead.  The key here is to work with what is available to you to change the circumstances, instead of fighting an uphill battle or trying to row against the current of the river.  By reminding ourselves that we live in a world with cycles and rhythms, the square and opposition will become the stepping stones for breakthroughs and radical changes for a better future.  This we need to keep in our thoughts as we continue our journey with the difficult aspects in connection with the slower moving planets in the coming few years,

“Pluto Being Reassigned May Be the Writing on the Wall?”

The interest in and the study of astrology has always been viewed in the recent past by the general public with curiosity and suspicion about the sanity of the individual practicing this art of divination.  A casual interest in the subject matter may be considered fashionable and tolerable at various times in our modern world, but never necessarily, mainstream.  These same skeptics can’t wait to hear what you have to say, especially, if what you are commenting on is about them.  If your interpretation of who they are is not as how they see it, you will be immediately told without any hesitation.  If what you say hits a chord, you may never know about it, as it may confirm that your interest may not be so crazy, after all.  One of my many cynics and critics came up to me after Pluto was declared by the scientific society that it was no longer considered a planet, with a sense of triumph in his grin.  Does that mean that astrology is all bunk after all, with Pluto being pushed to the back of the shelf?  He said it loud and clear for all to hear with a look of satisfaction of one who has won an argument.  I quickly replied with a very affirmative no, without any further explanation, as I was certain the justification of my answer would not be heard or understood at the moment.

I have always worked with the modern planets, as a support to the seven planets, in the same way as I was taught by my first teacher.  She understood from her spiritual teachings that Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were the higher spiritual octaves of Mercury, Venus and Mars as the transforming essence and energy in permitting us to understand and to work with their world.  Without them we would be spiritually and creatively bankrupt, and would not understand the meaning of originality, change, love, beauty, action, and intent, etc.  This always made sense to me as I have always thought that without Uranus’s adaptability for change and originality, Mercury’s gift as a messenger and a communicator would be lost.  How would we understand or see the beauty and the compassion of Venus, if Neptune’s ability to imagine, to dream and to see beyond the box wasn’t there to help us to see beyond edges of reality?  Mars needs to assert, to generate action, but without Pluto, how are we to realize or understand that these actions can renew, reintegrate, regenerate and possibly transform us?  Pluto with its intent and intensity helps us to go beyond what we think are our limitations, and see what is beyond the horizon.  These planets help the others to fully be themselves as they are the go between the mundane and the spiritual worlds.

Since I have always believed everything is connected spiritually in this world, as above, so below.  I began wondering if there was a spiritual correspondence or a message for us for Pluto being reassigned from a Planet to a dwarf planet?  Was this a sign or the writing on the wall, an omen of what will come to pass?  By recasting Pluto in the night sky, are we putting the energies of rejuvenation and transformation on the back shelves?  At first I didn’t want to admit or believe it, but through observations I realized that we have created devises to make our lives easier and give us more time, but the reverse has happen.  We have become so overwhelmed with text messages, emails and the need to experience all the new gadgets.  This leaves little time for oneself and the moments of contemplation and leisure to allow us to renew, reinvent, revitalize and transform our inner being.  In turn it gives us little time to share these moments with our closess companions and friends.  In coming to this conclusion and revelation I hope and pray that the writing on the wall is for the better in that we learn to take time out and use the energies of Pluto for our benefit.  Not to allow these assets and energies to lie dormant on the back shelf of all the things we want to get done.  As the saying goes “use it or lose it.”

“Don’t Look Back Warns the 21 Pisces 24 New Moon on March 11th 2013 at 12:52 pm PDT”

Pisces_2
As we approach the Spring Equinox for the new anthropological year of 2013, we come upon the last New Moon before the period at 21 Pisces 24 on March 11th 2013 at 12:52 pm PDT. By considering the aspects with the other planets in the night sky, it becomes apparent it is signifying the necessity to review and to make a major change in our consciousness and our spiritual values. This phase of the moon is warning us not to look back, but to look forward to the future in a new light with the emotions and the viewpoints of seeing it as a child. In this way we experience each moment as something new and not some repetition of the past. With the grouping of planets known as a stellium in Pisces including Mars, Venus, Chiron, Mercury, and Neptune, it is indicating the areas we need to concentrate on, which is the following: our spiritual and transcendental thoughts and experiences, our values, our emotions, our intuitions, our imaginations and our creativity.

A Stellium of planets is a concentrated and heightened level of focus in the area of the sign and house it falls in, in the chart one is delineating. This leads to the characteristics associated with the signs, the houses and the aspects it makes with the angles and the other planets, to be the influence and to become the dominant factors. It is not only felt by us as individuals, but within the larger picture of our community, country and the global whole as one. The type of influences affecting each group will be indicated by the chart used to represent each of them. Individually, it is determined in what area the stellium of planets are in our natal chart and the aspects it makes with it. In some charts the power to change the situation is subtle, but with others the underlying energy and force is so powerful, it becomes the main focal point during this period. However we feel the energy, whether it is slight or potent, we know the moment for action is now or never.

“The Sabian symbol for the 22nd degree of Pisces is taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”, and what follows are my comments.

Pisces 22 A man bringing down the new law from Sinai This is a symbol of the eternal authority implicit in the very fact of man’s ideals, and of a spiritualization of experience through the religious insights of human society and the institutions it has created for the common welfare. The inspired prophets of each age have been custodians of an enduring morality, and this has its embodiment in the mountain-top aspiration of even the least of individuals. Right is dramatized as a personal responsibility for the course of events. The keyword is mandate. When positive, the degree is self sacrifice and a determination to further the ultimate upliftment of all men, and when negative, self-exploitation and impenetrable egotism.

This symbol speaks to us of our inner spiritual and higher revelations which brings insights and awareness from a higher authority we need to begin to learn to rely on. It also speaks to us of our ability to have mystical and spiritual experience that can transform the way we as individuals and as a group live our lives. At its most lofty state, it has the ability to transform and to regenerate our personal moral integrity, our willingness for personal sacrifices and our personal commitment in making a difference in our own life and the lives of others. No matter how deeply we feel the energies of this New Moon, it is warning us not to look back, but to concentrate our energies towards creating a better future for ourselves and the planet. The concerted energies of the planets are reminding us that the power to create a better tomorrow is within each of us and the time should be now to bring into fruition our dreams.

“Mars a Malefic in Pisces In the Sixth House Maybe just a Court Jester in Disguise”

It is always interesting and amazing to me how one learns more from the study of astrology from studying and researching one’s own natal chart.  Trying to memorize the rules and the definitions of the signs with the planet has always been very difficult for me.  After many tries with cue cards and every trick in the trade I have given up trying to rattle off a definition off the top of my head.  Letting the meaning of the sign and the planet digest in my conscious and subconscious mind for a length of time, my consciousness comes up with a delineation that even surprises me at times.  From the very beginning of my studies I have been taught that the sixth house and Mars were considered malefic, and to have the house empty and Mars in some other house could be a blessing in disguise.  Whether it is fortunate or unfortunate I came into this world with Mars in a sign that it is not the happiest in, and in the sixth house.  Mars in Pisces is sensitive and strongly influenced by a passive nature not prone to aggression unless angered.  My early childhood taught me that life needed to be worked at, if one was to accomplish what one hoped for in life, so having a difficult sixth house was not necessarily alarming to me.

The sixth is the house of service, by serving, working for, waiting on, attending to, in other words indicating working under someone.  It also indicates how and how well we carry out our duties and the state of our health.   Mars symbolizes activity, and is the archetype for action, for work, for fighting, for anger and for aggression, but is weak and more submissive in Pisces. It may appear or show its characteristics very subtly, but there is a breaking point when the full force of its energies will be released.  Mars in Pisces is sympathetic, sensitive, receptive, and at the same time dislikes conflict and discord of any kind by compromising to maintain peace.  This attribute is emotional, adaptable, sacrificing with a tendency for the artistic and dramatic displays and action.  Mars in the sixth house directs action towards work, the type of employment and service.  At the same time the state of affairs of the health of the individual is indicated.  One is usually an energetic worker, industrious and unless otherwise indicated by aspects, works extremely well as a team worker under good leadership.

I find the above description quite accurate, but I feel the actions and energy of Mars in my chart is like a court jester full of little surprises.  I have always wondered about the role the jester plays at court.  He has many faces and one is a fool, one an entertainer, one a comedian and one a clown that keeps the royals laughing and happy.  Another, less conspicuous is the observer and confidant of the King, being aware of the intrigues and the mechanism of court life and has learn to survive through it all.  The passiveness that Mars gives to me is not being subordinate to another, but a need to keep an even keel in all relationships and situations with a happy disposition.  This makes me observant of the nature of others and the ability to work around and with them, and gives me a key to work in close cooperation, even with all the maneuverings in the work place.  Mars being in Pisces is a malefic and is in a malefic house, does not frighten me because the planet like the court jester entertains me and keeps me amuse, and there is never a dull moment with all the surprises up its sleeve..

“Let Go and Go With the Flow is the mood of the 23 Virgo 37 New Moon Sept 15

As the world turns, it seems to be speeding faster into tomorrow, ever since the twenty first century began.  So it appears that the year 2012 is taking its cue from all the incredible technological advancements, and zooming ever so faster into the next year.  I t seems like only yesterday, which was the beginning of the year, but already the 23 Virgo 37 New Moon is making its appearance on September 15th 2012 at 7:11 pm PDT emphasizing our need to let go and go with the flow.  With Mars square Venus Trine Uranus square Pluto sextile Chiron, the need to take drastic action because we are pushed into it, is essential at the moment, even if all we do is to improvise as the situation continues its forward motion.  At the moment the aspects are telling us not to reason why, but to make the best of what is happening and to try to get in touch with our higher inner self for revelations, to help us make some radical changes and decisions to secure a better future.

It is also telling us to return to the time when the power of love was the theme and the aim of a new revolution and revelation.  This time it is not a freedom loving revolution, but a compassionate renewal for all things created by the Universe.  Unless we begin to see that all life and things created by the Universe is interconnected and needs to live in harmony, then only chaos can be the result, and that is what we are seeing all around us at the moment.  Unfortunately, unless we begin to take action to make some far-reaching changes, the results of our causes and effects, will come upon us sooner and more sweeping and dramatic, then we could ever imagine.  The Universe in its compassion is directing our higher thoughts to the direction we need to take, but we need to continue the movement by active participation, if we are to avoid and to side step some of the trials and tribulations of our own making.  It is directing us to the flow, but now we need to take control and work with it.

“The Sabian symbol for the 24th degree of Virgo is taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”, and what follows are my comments.

Virgo 24  Mary and her white lamb   This is a symbol of the self-adequacy of experience on the inner or subjective side, or of that fullness of life which comes through a cherishing of young ideas.  The healthy approach to heaven through a child’s wide-eyed expectation is a clue to the adult’s responsibility for his potentials.  These he must take with him in a very conscious fashion wherever he goes if he is not to find himself divided within himself and so defeated by his own confusion.  The keyword is artlessness.  When positive, the degree is illimitable patience and adroitness in personal accomplishment, and when negative, futile show-off and idle boasting.

This symbol speaks of the necessity for us to see the world with a youthful perspective, by seeing life through the eyes of a child.  This symbolizes the innocence, the trust, the purity, the receptivity, and the experience of being without the complexities that come from age and the repetition of life.  Our responsibility is to let go of what we think we can and cannot do and to reawaken the potential that everything is possible with no limitations to accomplishing our dreams, or experiencing and seeing the wonders that life has to offer.  Our responsibility and greatest advantage lies in our ability to keep an open mind and to always expect the best.  With this attitude, the drastic modifications we need to make will be seen as opportunities instead of the necessities of change.  As we approach this Virgo New Moon, let us remember that the drastic change we need to make at this time may be to let go and go with the flow trusting in the wisdom of the Universe.

“The Will and Commitment are Being Highlighted by the 25 Leo 08 Aug 17th New Moon”

As the world continues to turn with its bumpy ride through the year 2012, countries are realizing that they are not alone, but actually depended upon each other for their welfare if they are to get through the financial crunch without a domino’s effect hurting everyone.  In this surrounding atmosphere the 25 Leo 09 New Moon on august 17th 2012 at 8:56 pm PDT makes its appearance highlighting the need for the will and the commitment to work for the good of the whole instead of just the me, as we continue for our survival through difficult times.  The Leo Moon sextiles Saturn conjunct Mars and making an aspect to both Pluto square Uranus with Venus in opposition to Pluto and square Uranus.  This New Moon phase is a reminder that each of us is a spark and a creation of the Divine, expressing our individuality in the cosmic picture, but yet at the same time we need to realize we are connected to one another by the divine essence that runs through each of us.  The whole picture is greater then its part emphasizing the phase “United we stand, divided we fall”.  This statement is not only extremely appropriate at this time in the larger picture as a community and globally, but as individuals, if our emotional, intuitional and intellectual being are in conflict to one another, our ability to fulfill our goals will be futile.

“The Sabian symbol for the 26th degree of Aquarius is taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”, and what follows are my comments.

Leo 26  A rainbow  This is a symbol of the over-all realization which comes to man for his guidance whenever he strives to reach his goals of a more enduring sort.  Here is assurance of divine participation in the most unpromising of human relationships.  The individual learns that there is a consistent ordering throughout the world in which he finds himself, and that nature will co-operate effectively with every vision he chooses to keep alive on his own account.  The keyword is significance.  When positive, the degree is a sense of very real spiritual power and presence in all personal effort and desire, and when negative, an uncritical acceptance of every passing hope or dream as something on which to depend.

This symbol speaks to our inner higher self in the realization of our connection to the Divine spark and to the guidance and hope it gives to us through the signs in nature of the presence of the Divine in all things with the gifts of aspiration, wish-fulfillment, faith, encouragement, and inspiration in knowing that at the end of the rainbow is the pot of gold.  The rainbow is the traditional symbol of hope dramatizing the need for faith and trust and the use and application of spiritual principles and standards for the good and benefit of all.  It is not in the pursuit to find the end of the rainbow, but the expectation, the visualization, and the thoughts of what is to be expected and looked for that develops our potentials which become the pot of gold.  It is the knowledge and the understanding that by using these spiritual principles and spiritual laws for the good of everyone, rather then for the few, that our vision and imagination will supersede its expectation.  As we approach this 25 Leo 08 New Moon, let us gain the will, the will power and the commitment to work for the good of the all and to realize we are all parts of the greater whole and the all.

“The 165 Degree or Johndro Aspect is Considered a Minor Aspect in the Major League”

I have always felt that life and everything in it is synergistic with the laws of the Universe, and if one could quiet one’s self long enough to listen and to be aware of it, its secrets will slowly be revealed.  My thoughts have always been if I am open, then at the right time, the right thing will come along into my life.  As of late, the intensity to learn all I can in astrology has been my main ambition and goal.  In the last issue of the Mountain Astrologer Magazine issue #163 June/July 2012, an article entitled “The 165 Degree Aspect” by Zane B. Stein, a leading authority on Chiron, was featured.  I have glanced at the article several times, without really reading it with my full attention.  I usually only use the major aspects in my delineations, and only use the minor aspects to confirm what I already suspected.  For myself, I have always tried to keep my delineations as simple as possible, as too many ingredients in the mixture would usually confuse me and my interpretations became too complex and less to the point of the matter.  For some reason, I felt I needed to pay more attention to this minor aspect of 165 degree, or quindecile, also known as the Johndro Aspect and or the Tao aspect.  Maybe it was the word Tao, which I have always associated with a way of life, which one needed to work with and to be in control of, which attracted my attention

Quoting from the article the keywords associated with this aspects are as follow: “determined, persistent, single-minded, dogged, unyielding, unrelenting, unwavering, persevering, uncompromising, reacting intensely to events by becoming all the more focused; unable to quit under any circumstances, not fazed by the apparent reality of a situation (not letting apparent reality interfere with one’s purpose); potential for becoming truly obsessive; believing that there is no such thing as a non-negotiable issue; continually to get up and return to the fray no matter how many times one is knocked down; not afraid of controversy.  When at its most negative, refusing to be swayed from one’s course by the realties of a situation can lead to self-destructive behavior.”  After reading this description, I saw myself within its words, which I always attributed to my ascendant square my Midheaven, with Neptune square the Moon and Mars in the sixth house square the tenth house, as the cause of my affliction.  I am now convinced it is because I have an almost exact 165 degree orb between Neptune and Mars.  In truth I never considered this affliction as totally bad or totally good.  In some instances I felt it was God sent, in that it helped me continue to the finish line of any difficult project I decided on.  At other times I thought it was a nuisance, as I could not seem to give up hope on any desire or wish, no matter how impractical it appeared.  Even when it seems fruitless, I wanted to wait until the next turn in the road, and even then would not give up my expectation that it would come to pass.  This was a light bulb turned on to high, illuminating a new avenue of discoveries.

Because it is happening in my own chart and with my own experiences, usually gives me the momentum to look into things, concepts, and ideas with a more open and concerted effort to uncover the truth and the validity of it.  Looking at a friend’s chart who was always very deliberate and directed in his philosophy and spiritual life, and that this was his main focus and objective in life, above anything else, appears to others as an obsession and a commandment of truth to proselytize others with.  Although he was not doing that, it appeared to others who did not know hi well that this was his main objective.  This made me wonder if the aspect was what we experience as individuals, or what others think they see in us because of the aspect working through us in unexpected ways?  I was not surprised to find an exact orb of a few seconds from his Sun in Gemini to Jupiter in Scorpio.  The keywords to this aspect seem to be more destructive then positive, but I have always had the conviction, nothing is absolutely beneficial or malefic, it is the way we put the attributes to work in our lives that determines the good or bad of it.  As I continue to read the article, it appeared that those who achieved something in life either had one or several of these aspects in their chart.  I could see where this aspect is needed to achieve anything worthwhile in life, as it keeps us going when hope is diminished and the light at the end is not in sight, until our goal is reached.  At the same time it can be an annoyance, in that we continue with something that has no end.  For those who have this aspect in their charts, I wonder what your thoughts are on the matter?
