“Check Your Emotions at the Door as Mercury Enters Retrograde on June 26th 2013”

mercglyph
Mercury stands for the intellect and the way we utilize it in our lives. It also represents communication, mediation, tactics, knowledge, mental flexibility, analytical and logical thoughts, and the manner of judging and deciding. Mercury is also the negotiator between the conscious and the unconscious mind because the key issue here is focus as defined in “Key Words in Astrology by Banzhaf & Haebler”. Its powers of thought support the recognition and understanding of the images of the unconscious, such as dreams. The planet also represents expression in speech, curiosity, the thirst for knowledge, and a certain readiness, ambition, and ability to learn. Mercury in Cancer is combining our emotions and feelings with the way we see and bring things about. With the planet in retrograde at 27 Cancer 3, beginning June 26th 2013, the Universe is directing us to check our emotions at the door as we undertake any situation, so we can pay attention to what is happening at the moment.

The cycle of Mercury Retrograde is about three times a year, and before we know it, or wish it, it has quickly passed and just as quickly, has returned again vying for our attention. One only needs to question anyone who has experienced the trials, tribulations and chaos that retrograde can create and one will hear endless stories that will amaze. My problem is whether our emotions on the subject has been so bent out of shape that the legends and the myths that have come out of it, may be more fiction than facts. Is the embellishment a help or a hindrance in getting one through this period safe and sound? How much of the experiences are real facts and how much of it is our imagination? A Retrograde period in my opinion is when caution, carefulness and retrospection is a necessity to avoid glitches, personal misunderstanding, flawed, disrupted, and delayed communications with ourselves and others.

Although I know there will be delays and disruptions that we can not avoid during this period, I do believe much of the frustrations and stress we experience is sometimes caused by our own carelessness in our thinking, action and especially how our emotions are expressed and carried out. With the retrograde in a water and cardinal sign, it is reminding us to monitor our emotions, impulses and actions to avoid frustrations and disappointments. That haste mixed with emotions makes waste, is no idle saying. The necessity to make things happen is our priority at this time, and possibly without the forethought and preparation, which at other times, would be our usual procedure. Whether it is the action of others, or actions instigated by our own emotions, ambitions and desires, the keywords, are caution and alertness in everything we do during this period of time.

“The Sabian symbol for the 24th degree of Cancer is taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”, and what follows are my comments.

Cancer 24 A woman and two men on a bit of sunlit land facing south This is a symbol of the soul’s necessary decisiveness in the basic allegiances of life, here emphasized in the terms of practical or everyday relations. There must be a mediation between the competing demands for immediate attention to various transient needs, and for some consistent or overall goal which will bring an individual’s efforts into a cohesive pattern. The inner capacities must be disciplined continually for the sake of a plethora of outer opportunities. The keyword is inception. When positive, the degree is an unusual gift for organizing and exploiting the self’s potentials, and when negative, a devastating sense of ineptitude and estrangement from reality.

This symbol speaks to me in that the woman and the two men symbolizes the emotional, nourishing, mental and physical nature of the human being working in unison towards knowledge, enlightenment and accomplishment. In balance and in harmony with one another, they are of one mind in working towards one goal without upsetting the equilibrium of the whole, suggesting unity of purpose and cohesiveness. The south symbolizes the source and the concept of integration and the ability to see and to grasp opportunities, when it knocks. Our advantage during this retrograde period is our ability to stay alert, aware and to anticipate any difficulties or trials that may come about as we participate in the moment. This Mercury Retrograde in Cancer is demanding us to check our emotions at the door if we wish to fly through this period without any complications that will disrupt and sidetrack us from our goals and wishes. As in all spiritual groups, rituals and exercises, if one is to succeed, one needs to set aside the emotions.

“Addressing the Real Issues is the First Step says the 7 Cancer 7 full Moon on Dec 28th 2012”

Within a week of the Winter Solstice, as the cold continues its grip with the night at their longest and darkest, the 7 Cancer 7 Full Cold Moon makes its appearance on December 28th 2012 at 2:23 am PST reemphasizing that addressing the real issues is the first step to ensure success in any venture.  The Long Night Moon is another appropriate term given to this moon because it is above the horizon a very long time during the midwinter night.  Some difficult aspects in the night sky are subtly influencing us to make some major changes, especially in how we see and view ourselves and what we stand for.  This perception of how we see ourselves is essential if we are to make any progress in our growth, happiness and satisfaction in our lives.  Once we begin to understand where we really are coming from and who we really are, only then can we begin to sift through any situation to uncover the actual issues that have brought about the conditions we are facing.  Without discovering the real issues, we would be going around in a circle hoping to get to the cause in order to find a solution to the matter, and never finding the answer.

“The Sabian symbol for the Moon in 8th degrees of Cancer and for the Sun in 8th degrees of Capricorn is taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”, and what follows are my comments.

Cancer 8  Rabbits dressed in clothes and on parade  This is a symbol of the upward reach of consciousness towards spirit, or of the necessity in all worth-while experience that events in some fashion make their continual and stimulating contribution to whatever values the self may be building into its own nature.  The habiliments of higher implications are always available for a lower life to wear experimentally, thus sharing in what as yet it has not been able to assimilate to itself.  The real is established as it is dramatized.  The keyword is appropriation.  When positive, the degree is unlimited assurance in any projection of self into a superior dimension of reality, and when negative, an ingenuous substitution of affirmation for accomplishment.

Capricorn 8  Birds in the house singing happily  This is a symbol of the descent of spirit or intelligence into every last ramification of everyday reality, and of man’s self-fulfillment as he is successful in shaping circumstances or precipitating events so that they become the ultimate and outward revelation of that higher vision by which he continues to be himself at core.  Here is the actual and impregnable independence of the individual, evident as at length he is able to make his world his own and call on all to share it with him.  The keyword is establishment.  When positive, the degree is an insatiable urge to put everything to use and to employ every least talent of self, and when negative, idle narcissism.

This symbol speaks to us of the clarification and formulation of the role-playing and mental rehearsals we have with ourselves that we use in order to discover what we think is our real self and our inner needs.  It represents our aspiration, our ambition, our imagination, our positive thinking and our ability to use our creative energies and to bring it into reality.  At the same time when everything seems to fall into place or out of place, it speaks to us of our ability to create the reality associated with it, as in happiness and as in delight or as in misery and as in despair according to the circumstances at hand.  The aspects in the night sky in connection with the sabian symbols emphasize the power of the mind and our thoughts.  By coming to terms of whom we are and who we wish to be, then only can we see the power of our thoughts and ideas.  Only then can we truly discover the truth to what confronts us.  It is important for us to address this at this point in time, as we are at the end of one cycle of time and are about to start another.  As we face up to this Full Moon, may we have the courage to step up to the plate and address the real issues instead of side stepping the problem.

“Now or Never is the Moment Says the 26 Cancer 54 New Moon on July 18 2012”

Like any map that gives us directions, to get to where we want to go, or an instruction pamphlet to get us started on the right foot, the stars and the planets are a guide and instructions with indications of the possibilities that lie across our paths as we continue our journey in life.  The problem that continues to plaque us is the possibility of misreading or misunderstanding the information.  Either by our carelessness or that the information given is too complex and confusing.  The complexity of the message and the subtle influences can create devastating results that sometimes appears to be simple, plain and to the point.  The 26 Cancer 54 New Moon on July 18th 2012 at 9:25 pm PDT is saying, it is now or never.  Pointing to the fact that we need to take actions, without warning us of the dangers involved.  Mars is in opposition to Uranus and square to Pluto demanding action, intent, passion, reform and regeneration.

As the night skies have been indicating a real need for change for the last few years, and to this point in time, the actions taken have not gotten us any further along then we were in the past.  An urgent need for action that makes a difference is imminent that we can no longer tolerate the circumstances, as they are.  The handwriting on the wall is demanding us that action needs to be taken before we no longer have a choice.  Being pushed into a situation where there are no choices or changes that can be made.   At the same time, it is subtly warning us to take care and to use insight and foresight in dealing with the circumstances of change and transformation.  That we need to be mindful of our every thought, word and action we encounter, when working towards revolutionizing the old ways into something that will work and benefit all.  We need to be careful not to bring up emotions and actions, which would separate us from a united cause.

“The Sabian symbol for the 28th degree of Cancer is taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”, and what follows are my comments.

Cancer 27  A storm in a canyon  This is a symbol of a pyramiding reality on the side of external circumstances, or of violence and terror as divine in their capacity for lifting man out of his aplomb and demanding some manifestation o his inner ideals and enduring values.  Here is the indomitable integrity of everything to be taken as of consequence in its own right, shown in the energy with which it preserves itself.  Nature ever dramatizes man’s unleashed powers, or his ability to rise in supremacy over each momentary crisis.  The keyword is intensification.  When positive, the degree is an enlistment of every resource in life for a heightened expression of self, and when negative, fatuous enjoyment of turmoil.

This symbol totally speaks to us of awakening our complacency through the events we have been experiencing as a global community and our individual circumstances, which can no longer be ignored.  It alludes to a situation we have no control of, but at the same time we are able to prepare and be ready for what is about to happen.  We can not control what is on its way, but we can make preparations to deal with it.  This represents and demonstrates our ability to use the gifts the Universe has bestowed on us.  The ability to rise above any situation or crisis and to use every resource at our disposal in meeting any of the challenges that life has to offer.  In working out the solutions, it is advising us not to get caught up in emotional confrontations that will derail us from accomplishing our intended result.  Let us then come prepared with insights and foresights as we meet this New Moon in Cancer saying to us, it is now or never,

“The 12 Capricorn 13 Full Moon on July 3 2012 Says the Tip of the Iceberg is Sinking”

For the last few years the difficult aspects of squares and oppositions have been making their existence felt, here and there.  The shouts of change have filled the air, but the results have been very dubious with very little results, that actually made any difference in the global situation.  The conjunction of Pluto with the moon starts a new cycle of radical transformation with a square to Uranus initiating a foremost turning point, something we haven’t seen for a quite awhile.  With these aspects the 12 Capricorn 13 Full Moon makes its appearance on July 3rd 2012 at 11:53 am PDT saying to everyone that the tip of the iceberg is sinking.  This is indicating to us that the situation is getting worst and the actions we need to take can no longer wait.  To react as we have been, has done nothing so far.  The Universe is about to push us into a situation, where we no longer have a choice, but to make some drastic changes in a creative and courageous way.  Within about a week and a half, both Mercury and Uranus will be turning retrograde, forcing us to look within ourselves for the answers.

“The Sabian symbol for the Moon in 13 degrees of Capricorn and for the Sun in 13 degrees of Cancer is taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”, and what follows are my comments.

Capricorn  13  A fire worshiper  This is a symbol of man’s inner strength through his realization of an inviolable  tie with creative power of the universe itself, dramatized by hiss continual outreach to the divine in a spiritualizing of his aspiration and a dedication of his talents and possessions to the over-all reality.  He knows he must demonstrate his ultimate independence of his circumstances or else surrender his own potentialities forever.  Here is ideality brought to the point of miracle.  The keyword is magic.  When positive, the degree is extraordinary skill in enlisting every resource of the world for the exaltation of self and the consummation of its ambitions, and when negative, consistent overestimation of personal capacity.

Cancer 13  One hand slightly flexed with a very prominent thumb  This is a symbol of that belief in his inherent supremacy over all other orders of nature by which man is characterized most fundamentally, dramatized by his quite normal confidence in his ability to deal with every eventuality of day-by-day activity and relationship.  Any individual must rule his environment or surrender his own potentialities forever.  Here is practicality brought to the point of ruthlessness.  The keyword is determination.  When positive, the degree is exceptional steadiness and a high sense of self-responsibility in every issue of the moment, and when negative, unnecessary aggressiveness and a self-defeating shortsightedness.

This symbol is empowering us because of the knowledge and wisdom that with the miracle of spiritual transformation we are inseparably linked with our creator.  The emphasis is on the devotion, on the hope, on the faith and on the inspiration that our creative power is within, and is connected with the Creator, to generate that which we desire.  This symbol points to our devotion, and our belief that everything we have and are, is because of a higher power.  This speaks to us of the exceptional discipline, control, responsibility and strength we have within, with our unshakeable confidence in our ability to handle whatever problems and tribulation that comes our way.  This symbol is reminding us to reconnect with the creator, to go within our sacred abode, that the solutions are within and easily accessible.  The tip of the iceberg is sinking and disappearing says this Capricorn Full Moon, as it is a wake up call that we can no longer avoid to find the solutions to our problems.  There can be no more delays, as we need to make some drastic changes before it is too late and are forced into it.

“Seeing and Using Profection in One’s Delineation in a New and Different Light”

One of the reasons I enjoy the study of astrology is the amazement I have when I have discovered and uncovered a new secret about myself that the chart reveals.  One may argue that because I may be looking for it, that I made the aspects work for me, to give me the response I was looking for.  This may be true for some things, but I disagree on the truths I least expected to find and discovered about myself.  Or the wow moments a person one just met experiences when delineating their chart.  One may cherish the thought that in delineating a chart one has a fifty to fifty chance to get it right or wrong, and this statement would only be true if we as astrologers, don’t make every effort and use every tool at our fingertips to be as accurate as possible.  This is the one reason Morin feels that in predicting important influences in a coming year, one needs at least three aspects confirming the situation in question, as a necessity to validate one’s validity.  My favorite method in determining the influences for the coming year is with the Solar Return chart, but there are times, even when one is sure what the influences are, one wishes there was another method that would confirm and backup one’s conclusions.

The reason I am convinced it is a good idea to have a general consensus of what is in our future, is that I whole heartedly believe in the aphorism that being “forewarned is forearmed”.  I have experienced more openness and flexibility when I am prepared for whatever might happen.  In this way I was able to take advantage and to use the situation to my benefit.  Had it come upon me as a surprise, my reactions and decisions may have been determined by the moment and the situation, and not by my higher intuition, thought or my emotions.  I have tried other methods such as transits, progressions, et cetera, but was not comfortable with any one of them.  It so happens that an astrologer in one of my traditional astrological egroups who I totally respect, gave a short summation of why she was so enamored with the use of profection in connection with a solar return chart and how it would improve one’s accuracy in the delineation of any chart.  This is a very old and traditional method of the progression of the house through the ascendant each year.

The meaning is taken from Astrology.com.

Profection is a time lord system, based on a progression in the order of the signs from a given point.  There are annual, monthly, and daily profections for each planet or lot (Arabic part).  A profection is simply a jump from one sign to the next.  For instance, an annual profection jumps from one sign to the next on your birthdate every year.  If Fortuna was in Gemini when you were born, then the annual profection for Fortuna on your next birthday would be Cancer.

At first glance, I quickly dismissed it, because I could not make any sense or imagine that every single soul going through their second birthday would experience the second house in the same way.  This was the reasoning in which I misjudged the system.  It took a couple of years on the back burner, while I was studying Morin that I realized that we would experience each house according to the ruler of the sign and not just the house itself.   By utilizing the essential dignities a more colorful and precise picture came into view.  Suddenly I saw each individual experiencing their year differently and applying the transits gave a different perspective.  By looking at my own solar return chart for the present and having it confirmed with the profection chart was an exciting moment for me.  Another one followed another as I applied this method to the charts of my friends.  There is still a lot for me to learn with this method even though I consider myself a professional, as the source material on this subject matter is few and far between.  I am sure there are more trials and errors in front of me on this subject matter, but what this has taught me is to be more open and less judgmental on systems developed and used by our fore runners.  Maybe some areas of astrology are obsolete in this modern age, but before I throw out the bathwater, I better make sure the baby is not in with it.

“18 Cancer 25 Full Moon Emphasizes That We are All Connected and are Not Alone”

About a week after the resolutions and the parties to help bring into focus another year, the 18 Cancer 25 Full Moon at 11:30 pm PST on January 8th 2012 begins to subtlety emphasize the fact, that we are all connected and are not alone on our journey in this life.  With the moon near the end of the second decan of Cancer (ten degree increment dividing the 360 degree zodiac), and practicing the method of Lilly and Morin in using the essential dignities and fixed stars in delineating any chart.  The message in the cold dark night sky is directing us to aim and think differently then what we have been doing, and to restructure our concepts of our place in this world, both physically and spiritually.  Whether we believe in a higher being or not, our instinctive need to be a safe keeper and guardian of the life, and the world we live in, is becoming fundamental.  The signs are everywhere, with the weather patterns going berserk and the major earthquakes happening more frequently globally.  As the ancients considered the earth, our earthly mother, so too our world needs to return to the consciousness that life is interconnected and that we need to think and work as one, to see a better tomorrow.

“The Sabian symbol for the Moon in 19 degrees of Cancer and for the Sun in 19 degrees of Capricorn is taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”, and what follows are my comments.

Cancer 19  A priest performing a marriage ceremony  This is a symbol of the spiritual stewardship of man as expressed in his conscious concern for the integrity of human society and for the everyday institutions through which all racial ideals must have their continued embodiment.  There are very full rewards awaiting the individual who is willing to live the life of his fellows through his consistent shaping of his own acts and opinions to dramatize the current aspirations of his kind.  His service to the established rituals becomes a special self-fulfillment.  The keyword is conformity.  When positive, the degree is a genius for bringing various facets life into organic unity, and when negative, bondage to outer forms.

Capricorn 19  A child of about five with a huge shopping bag  This is a symbol of the spiritual stewardship of man as expressed in his inherent sense of responsibility for the welfare of others, and in his desire to serve his community to the extreme of his particular range of skills.  There is wonderful recompense for the individual willing to share the total of his potentialities, and to enjoy those of his fellows to the limit of his understanding.  His quickening to every opportunity of common function becomes a special self-fulfillment.  The keyword is expectation.  When positive, the degree is an effective breadth of participation in everyday living, and when negative, indiscriminate conformity to every passing fad.

The symbol speaks to our spiritual need to committing and upholding community standards and values in order to function as a whole in a manner of harmonious cooperation in living with one another.  Here the word conformity is not to mold one into being like everyone else, but the accent is on unification, integrity, with loyalty and commitment to common thoughts in which to help us solve our differences and to work towards a better world together.  Our greatest advantage is finding our commonality, and not our differences to achieve a general objective.  To go beyond what we have experienced before and to take responsibility, opportunities, joy and satisfaction in being a help to others in working towards a universal goal that will benefit all.  Like a child who is innocent and sees the world as new and wonderful, we need to develop the courage of a little child, which has the faith that all will go well.  Before jumping into anything at this time, the aspects of Mercury conjunct Pluto and the Sun is telling us to ask the right questions before making any decisions.  Let the energy of this moon phase enter into our consciousness that we are all connected and are not alone.

“Is a Planet in Exaltation Showing Pride in Achievements a Beneficial Dynamic?”

One of my most memorable moments in my life was taking astrology classes in an elegant old brownstone in a once prosperous section on the upper Westside of New York City.  It was a group of about ten of us who met twice a month for almost two years to compare many charts of friends and the famous, in which we exchange ideas, thoughts and delineations.  Not only was I amazed by the diversity of personalities, but the variety of promises and successes shown throughout the charts.  Most of charts which had kept and fulfilled their promises were very obvious.  This storehouse of information for comparison gave me some moments of regret and sadness as there was only two trines and two sextiles in my natal map.  In the charts we were studying the beneficial aspects and essential dignities were abundant and overflowing.  In some cases the squares and oppositions was the benefic aspect to the individual’s success.

I brought this to the attention of my teacher, and in her insight, she said, “the Universe may give us a difficult chart to work with, but in their wisdom they will give us an aspect that if we work with it, will help us through life’s difficult moments”.  At the time I didn’t realize how powerful these words were and the wisdom and truth that were within its meaning would support and carry me through some wonderful and difficult times.  The one thing I have learnt through the years in studying astrology is, it isn’t how many beneficial or malefic aspects one has, but how we work with the aspects the Universe has bestowed upon us that creates successes in one’s life.  We all consider our assets as beneficial gifts, but our liabilities are also gifts, and if we understood how to use them to our advantage, then the magic of creating our hopes and desires would be within our grasp.  My gift from the Universe was Jupiter in Cancer, exalted in the eleventh house.

Jupiter being the only planet in exaltation in my natal made me eager and interested in reading anything on the subject matter.  The following quotation comes from the book, “On The Heavenly Spheres – A Treatise on Traditional Astrology by Helena Arelar and Luis Riberio”.  “In the astrological interpretation we might consider that an exalted planet simultaneously indicates value and exuberance.  If the planet represents an individual, it suggests someone respected and well-intentioned but with a tendency toward exaggeration and even arrogance.”  My original reaction was shock that a beneficial aspect would be connected to a negative trait, but with further investigation I realized I had jumped to the conclusion that we were talking about the natal.  The authors were talking about a horary chart and indicating the planet might describe the person involved in the question. This made me wonder if an exalted planet would describe our attitude on the area the planet governs in our lives.  Would it be as drastic as arrogance, egotistical selfish pride or more like wholesome pride of achieving what one puts his mind to?

Meditating on this I came to the conclusion, nothing and everything is neither all beneficial, nor all malefic, but a combination of both to achieve what we hope for.  Nothing is black or white, but all the different grays from one end of the spectrum to the other end.  If we didn’t have little wholesome pride of our achievements, the exalted planet would not be able to continue bringing it’s blessing into reality.   What I have come to the conclusion, it isn’t what is in the chart that is important, but what makes success or failure, is how we work with what is given to us, to the best of our abilities.  Success comes when we become aware that everything in the Universe is like the symbol of the yin and the yang encompasses good and evil, light and dark, et cetera.  We need the wisdom and the understanding that by working with these energies instead of against them, they will work with us to achieve our wishes and dreams.  Next time one connects wholesome pride with an exalted planet, just remember a beneficial dynamic may just be beginning.
