“July 1st Solar Eclipse is Asking Us to Correct, Clarify and Fine Tune Our Perceptions”

However one receives the news today, either through the internet, on the air or print, one realizes that something is happening that is telling us that business as usual is not the case.  Whether it is the political or physical upheavals in the world, weather patterns gone berserk and the doomsday prophesies; unrest, fear and frustration is here to stay with us for the time being.  As the rebellion of thoughts and ideologies is running amuck across the global communities, the third eclipse in a row, forming a Solar Eclipse on July 1st 2011 at 9 Cancer 12 at 1:55 a.m. PDT, is a another clue telling us to pay attention to what is happening around us.  That not only do we need to listen to our inner spiritual voices, but to be aware of everything that is going on around us, to make the right choices as we go forward during this period of trials and tribulations.  This Solar eclipse square Neptune, trine Uranus and opposite Pluto is giving us another opportunity to get our personal world in shape, by giving us the energy and motivation to correct, clarify and fine tune our perceptions.

As the aspects have been forecasting for the last few years, that reevaluation and change is not only simmering in the atmosphere, but the need for action to bring it into reality is a necessity and must at the moment.  The question to be under consideration and concern, is what action of change is to be implemented, is it change from the inside or from the outside of ourselves?  Is it change from the stand point of what we think the truth is, or from the standpoint of what we are being told and or are being convinced is the situation, or change from what the situation actually is?  Do we need to use hindsight, foresight, insight, or are all three needed to be blended in with our logic and wisdom to come up with the right changes and direction that will place us on the road we should have taken?  All these questions are needed to reinforce and to reestablish the correct perceptions of any situation when making decisions.  It is whether we wish to continue as is, make some minor changes, or make a complete turn around, as no resolution can be made without a truthful perception of what the circumstance are, in which we are dealing with.

“The Sabian symbol for the 10th degree of Cancer is taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”, and what follows are my comments.

Cancer 10  A large diamond not completely cut  This is a symbol of man’s basic self-justification on the cultural or intellectual side, and of the complete dependence of the world around him on his arts and skills for any values that may be built or sustained in its eternal promise.  Here all progress turns out to be primarily the endowment of reality with expanded dimensions of significance, and man’s pilgrimage through the lower planes of being is revealed as a continual service to higher meanings through which he knows himself.  The keyword is latency.  When positive, the degree is an effective gift for dramatizing the potentialities of everything at hand, and when negative, a futile lean on purely static merit.

This sabian symbol in Cancer is telling us that we need to nurture the ability to have the insight to see beyond the surface of a person, idea or circumstances where we can see the potential, and work with it until it is manifested into reality.  It is the ability to see an uncut rough gem and to realize the finished product may be a diamond.  It takes hard work and intuition to look beyond what appears in its rough stages and it takes determination, faith and the will to see the project through to the end.  Whether it is an object, an idea, or person, it is the firm conviction and hard work that brings the potentials into the open and we reap its rewards.  The ability to have the insight to recognize merit only comes when we begin to fine tune our perceptions.  To begin to see things as they are, not the way we want to see them or the way others want us to see.  Having a clear perception of any situation or problem will give us a head start in solving and creating a world we would be happy to live in.  This Solar Eclipse is allowing us to correct, clarify and fine tune our perceptions, and our responsibility, is to have the insight and determination to work with it for our benefit and happiness.

“Essential Dignities are Indispensable in Delineating a Chart with Impact!”

One thing I have realized about astrology is that it is a subject matter that one needs to continue to study and research, that never quits and keeps on going and going.  What I haven’t always realized or considered, is that what ever is studied and memorized at one point needs to be reevaluated from time to time to gain a different perspective, understanding or impact, as we continue our growth on the astrological path.  I have learnt through experience that the same thought and idea under consideration will offer different implications at different time periods of my life.  I am not sure if it is because my thoughts have matured, or am I looking at it from a different angle or point of view?  Whatever happens, it seems that these new insights come about when reviewing an old subject matter already studied.  This always happens when I restudy a subject and it especially was evident when I reexamined essential dignities with a traditional astrological mindset, which instilled in me a totally different way of looking at my self and others.  It isn’t that the knowledge wasn’t there all the time, it is just that I didn’t realize how to apply it or I didn’t investigate far enough into the subject matter to uncover the gem and treasure contained within, what a fantastic surprise.

My first teacher whom I have great respect for, gave the subject matter a quick going over and seems to have used it sporadically during the course of our study.  With all that we were learning, the essential dignities sat in the back shelf of my memory for occasional use when I felt the need for it.  In trying to establish a firm foundation into traditional methods, my research and study showed that the dignities play more of an important role in the delineation of a chart then modern astrologers give it credit for, which gives a more interesting and complex picture then I could ever imagine or makeup in my imagination.  Although the dignities play an essential part in horary delineation, its work in the natal is as important and vital to the ancients in understanding the natal chart and the individual within.  In considering the dignities, one must remember there are the essential elements and rules that consistently apply to the planets within the signs.  The accidental dignities occurs when the quality, energy and strength of a planet is fortified by being direct, swift in motion, angular, free from combustion, in a beneficial aspect to a fortunate planet or conjunct an auspicious fixed star.

The first dignity is the ruler of the sign, which one can think of as the King or President of his country or the proprietor of the house and household, the planet is the master of his surroundings and his wishes and commands are brought into fruition.  What follows is the planet that is in its exaltation which would represent an honored spiritual or political leader, whose wishes and commands are always hopefully carried out.  A planet in its fall is like a person from a different culture or background that feels uncomfortable in the sign or house and is unable to receive any help or support from his surroundings, and may be compared to an uninvited guest to a private function, no happiness or satisfaction there.  Next to be considered is the triplicity ruler of a day or night chart, which is like the best buddy or visiting celebrity, which is treated with much respect and who is beneficial, helpful and works with the planet in all its endeavors.  Then comes the bounds or better know as terms where the signs are divided unevenly into five sections, where the planets are given a place of their own to be themselves without any obstruction or interference from others.  It may be compared to a refugee for whatever reason seeking asylum in another country, or a person seeking a quiet abode to meditate and do his own thing in this fast paced world we live in.  Face is the next dignity to be considered, which is likened to the trusted servant in the household, trusted and respected in its place in the family circle, but weak in the hierarchy of the group.  The planet in its detriment has no validity or honor and who is not expected to contribute anything and is not listen to or respected for what it might add to the household.

With the realization of what this new information could do for me in my delineation of any type of chart, I began to see where my interpretations were faulty and on a weak foundation.  It helped me to understand why some individuals did not fulfill the promise of their charts, and others appear to exceed their dreams and desires.  To put these thoughts into practice, let us pretend that we have Jupiter in Capricorn on the mid heaven sextile Venus in Pisces in the eleventh house.  Quickly off the top, we might assume the person will have a good job with a decent salary.  Delving deeper one realizes Jupiter in Capricorn is in its fall situated on the cusp of an angle is not particularly happy with the situation and is uncomfortable doing what is expected of him, but a friend either recommended him for the job, or is the support he needs to fulfill the dreams and wishes he wants to obtain.  Venus is exalted in Pisces and makes her well respected and she knows the territory and can guide and support Jupiter to excel in his desires.  This is just a simple example, and it can become more complex and revealing, when one really begins to work with this system.  When one becomes a friend with the essential dignities, their secrets are revealed and then we will come to realize how indispensible they are, if we wish to make an impact with our delineation.

“24 Sag 23 Total Lunar Eclipse on June 2011 Emphasizes the Need to Redefine Relationships”

Throughout the ancient world, the appearance of an eclipse brought fear and distrust to the minds and lives of the beholders.  In the imaginations of the inhabitants, a large mythical monster was devouring one of their lights and the calamities and destructions would befall all of them, unless gifts and sacrifices were offered to their gods to appease the monster, to help avoid major catastrophes.  Like the ancients of old, the thoughts that eclipses brought earthquakes, berserk weather patterns, flooding, destructive tidal waves, social unrest, upheavals, conflicts and wars still subtly plaque us today.  On June 15th 2011 at 1:13 p.m. PDT, a Total Lunar Eclipse at 24 Sagittarius 23 will become apparent.  This event is additionally disconcerting to some as it is a total eclipse, allowing the energy and forces to be more concentrated and focused at this time.  With Mercury conjunct the Sun, and Saturn in Libra still opposing Uranus square Pluto and the ruler of Libra trine Saturn, the Total Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius is emphasizing our need to redefine and rethink all of our relationships.  When I speak about relationships I am signifying our relationships to ourselves, families, friends, loves, our philosophies, our beliefs, et cetera.  The mindset that we have in working with Mercury Retrograde with caution and care is the same attitude we should maintain with any eclipse, especially a Total Lunar or Solar Eclipse.

Besides rethinking what we believe to be the foundation of our building blocks and who we are, we must make sure our mental abilities are working hand in hand with the emotional side of our nature, towards the same goals.  That one is not working against the other, during this crucial moment in time.  Whether this Eclipse is making a beneficial or malefic aspect to our chart, is not as important, as the message that this is a wakeup call for change and action, is on the horizon.  How effectively we work through it, is determined on how well we have constructed the foundation of our beliefs.  Where exactly in each individual chart it appears, allows us a clue to which area in our lives we need to pay attention to.  Remember individually, we can each have our own emotional earthquake that will shake the foundation of our beliefs for better or for worst.  Or a have our own Tsunami of tears or fears that may wipe out our confidence or build our confidence and understanding for a better future.  It is not whether the energies of this eclipse are working with or against us, but how we adapt, improvise and work with the situation presented.  It is what we do with it that is important and the end result will be its promise and reward from a possible difficult and trying state of affairs.

“The Sabian symbol for the Moon in 25 degrees of Sagittarius and for the Sun in 25 degrees of Gemini is taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”, and what follows are my comments.

Sagittarius 25  A chubby boy on a hobbyhorse  This is a symbol of the ambition by which man ultimately manages to leave his immortal stamp on the world around him, here dramatized in his desire for fullness of living and a perfection of accomplishment.  The individual employs whatever means are available for trying his hand at the skills through which he would know his expanding self-fulfillment, and in his days of play and training he learns to fix his eyes steadily on the pyramid of goals ahead.  The keyword is emulation.  When positive, the degree is an indomitable determination to give the lesser potentialities of existence a more effective dimension, and when negative, idle self-indulgence and ingenuous claims of merit.

Gemini 25  A man trimming palms  This is a symbol of the pride in effort by which man seeks to leave his immortal stamp on the world around him.  There is here the bending, of all natural resources to the will of the individual, and an enlistment of every beauty and capacity of nature for a continuing revelation of the self’s aesthetic sense.  The harmony between the workman and his materials becomes gratifying evidence of the soul’s powers on the more objective side of a self-justification.  The keyword is enhancement.  When positive, the degree is an exceptional gift for bringing all things to an effective service in some special aspect of over-all achievement, and when negative, an empty display of trivial excellencies.

Everything we have ever learnt during our sojourn in this life, builds on what has gone on before, and the foundation we are building upon needs to be solid, if we are to survive the ravages of time with its tribulations and trials.  Every idea, thought, feeling or experience needs to be registered as it has happened, not as we have witnessed, experienced or as we think we remembered it.  If our memory of the situation is faulty, and we use it as the foundation, then we can only blame ourselves if the edifice we have erected begins to crack.  Our structure, which represents us, is like climbing on the hobby horse, so that others can see how far we have come and where we might be going.  It is remembering the experience of what it was like the first time when we imagined or climbed on the hobbyhorse to feel and observe what was ours and how we wanted others to see us, that this Total Lunar Eclipse is asking us to revisit and relive.  We need to re-experience that moment of exhilaration at this point in time to see if we are where we want, or need to be.  By revisiting, rethinking and redefining our relationships we shall have the wisdom and fortitude to change or continue whatever this Lunar Eclipse has in store for us.

“The Ascendant and the Lights Describes Who We Are as Mercury Defines Us”

The one thing I have learnt in the study and application of the art and science of astrology is that no matter how one has attained their information and knowledge, whether by self study, real classroom discussions, or by the internet, one needs to work with what one has learnt to recognize how much of the information we have absorbed and comprehended.  Memorizing formulas and aphorisms may give us the basis and foundation of the subject matter, but understanding the groundwork of where it came from, to the point where it is today, allows us to go forward and discover new realms of understanding and exploration we never saw before.  My first teacher and my first home study course, both agreed that the first thing one does in delineating a chart is to look at the ascendant to describe the individual, and to see how the first house colors and expresses the energies of the Sun and the Moon.  The Sun allows us to see the essence, and the Moon the emotional and caring qualities, and the ascendant allows us to see what the person cares for, or wants us to know.

Most of the time this definitely works, and at other times it seems a little off with the individual in question, not having the confidence or conviction of the liabilities or assets described by the chart.  This puzzled and perplexed me as I always was taught to integrate the aspects and signs before coming to a conclusion, but by making this first observation, it should give us a clue to build on and to develop the whole picture.  In some charts the person did not seem to fulfill the promise it indicated, and why not?  I could not understand why some of the traits where well developed as shown in the charts and not as well developed with others, although one could see the assets and liabilities subtlety being expressed through the individual, even if the person could not see it.  What caused this I wondered?  The more I analyzed the chart, the more perplexed I became, and until I began to look at Mercury and the conditions it is in.  Going back and applying the essential dignities and reapplying the old traditional methods I began to see a pattern emerge which really surprised me.

The condition Mercury is in, seem to determine how well we understand and adapt ourselves to situations that constantly challenge us into new directions and growth.  I had to remind myself that Mercury is a neutral planet that assimilates the qualities of the planets surrounding it, representing the rational mind, thinking, communications, verbalization, education, besides travel and transportation.  In some signs and zodiacal houses, it rules and has its exaltation and joy in.  According to bounds, it has certain degrees in each sign that it would be safe in and is allow to be it self, even if the sign is not conducive for the planet to operate at its full potential.  Mercury is essential to communication and if it is in a sign which is not conducive to conversing to others, is it not possible that we are not able to communicate our self worth, abilities and liabilities to our own being for further understanding of who we really are?  This made sense to me, and when I began to apply it to myself and friends, it was mind blowing.  This explains why people with similar aspects, but in different degrees of the sign expressed their characters and personalities differently and were more or less successful in their own eyes, not necessarily fulfilling their potential in life.

This does not mean that Mercury indicates success in life, but it does indicate how well we absorb information and how well we disseminate this information to help our growth and success in whatever endeavors we choose.  Our ability to communicate to others translates to how well we communicate and understand ourselves to be able to work around our liabilities and to use our assets to our advantage for happiness in this life.  It is not important, the state Mercury is in our chart, what is important is to understand how to use our Mercury in whatever state it is in, to achieve our highest potential.  Knowing what Mercury lacks is being forewarned, and as I have always been adamant about, that being forewarn is being forearm for any situation, one encounters.  Success is to understand who you really are, and working with who you are to your best ability, brings joy and contentment.  To reiterate, the lights in your chart and your ascendant describes you, but the state Mercury is in defines who you are and allows one to use its energy to achieve happiness, and joy.

“June 1st 2011 Gemini Solar Eclipse Resounds That Spontaneity Leads to Discovery”

Eclipse Symbol by Deirdre Tanton

As the summer months begin to appear on the horizon, a Partial Solar Eclipse is the beginning of three eclipses in a row on June 1st 2011 at 2:02 p.m. PDT at 11 Gemini 02, brings its enchantments, myths, and legends to the forefront of our thoughts.  The ancients considered the eclipses as omens of evil and tribulations as the lights, the Sun or the Moon, are hidden for a short period of time from view.  In our modern times these superstitions seem passé, except for the fact the earth seems to be rebelling with earthquakes and weather patterns going berserk around the globe causing havoc and destruction in its path, with the awaking of social and political unrest happening everywhere, at the same time.  The diversity of discontents and upheavals is causing the reawakening of the subtle implications that the Universe is trying to tell us something, is in the air.  With so many voices pronouncing that the end of the world is imminent, and the visual and physical evidence that seems to be happening, our subconscious and inner soul is seeking answers and signs, to bring comfort to the uncertain feelings that abound.

The partial eclipse is trine Saturn in opposition to Uranus square Pluto, and a stellium of planets which include Mercury, Venus and Mars in Taurus is echoing and resounding that spontaneity and improvisation at the moment leads to discoveries and inspirations.  Spontaneity indicates that we are living and making decisions with quick mental and emotional reactions, and we are made accountable for our actions and the outcome of our choices.  In the blink of an eyelid, to make the decision to live the moment and to see the implications of that action and to know it will lead to new avenues of inspirations and discoveries in our next turn, on the road of life.  The Solar Eclipse is giving us a wakeup call and telling and commanding us to realize that this period in our evolution is a turning point in which we must take serious steps, and to make it happen.  With Saturn in opposition to Uranus, change is not the only keyword, but versatility, adaptability, improvisation, and our need to be spontaneous with wisdom and judgment (Jupiter trine the North Node).  To know also that everything beneficial or malefic placed in our path is for a purpose, and with wisdom and discernment, we will make the right choices for progress.

“The Sabian symbol for the 12th degree of Gemini is taken from “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Marc Edmund Jones”, and what follows are my comments.

Gemini 12  A Topsy saucily asserting herself  This is symbol of the balance which every individual must maintain between the compulsions of the social milieu on which his wellbeing depends and the necessity that he exercise his fledgling wings on every possible occasion.  Like the slave girl trying the patience of her mistress as far as she dares, man must speak out to life with an almost spiritual impudence in order to have any character at all.  Personality here is refined as it risks its very being to be what it as yet has still to become.  The keyword is growth.  When positive, the degree is a high gift for taking personal advantage of every new situation in experience, and when negative, a joy in pure dissatisfaction.

This Sabian symbol is reminding us to take a stand to assert ourselves to gain the confidence, in order to grow into the person we want to become.  Growth takes time and experience which requires trials and errors to decide how far we can go, and what works for us.  Although we may not wish to go through the trials and tribulations that life has in store for us, the experience and the effort we put into it, is what gives us the character that defines each of us as individuals.  It is being spontaneous of any situation that we become aware that this is the moment that brings about new discoveries and inspirations to where we need to be.  It is being responsible for our spontaneous actions that wisdom and discernment comes into play, and that gives us the confidence to live our own lives to the fullest every moment of the day.  This Partial Gemini Solar Eclipse is giving us the magical energy to help us to be more spontaneous and adventuresome to discover the inspirations we need to overcome whatever is ahead of us in the coming months.  Our duty to the Universe is to accept the gift in gratitude and to work with it to the best of our abilities.
